Located in Chun'an County, west of the Zhejiang Province, Qiandao Lake Resort is 129 kilometers away from Hangzhou. Qiandao Lake is one of the “Five Most Beautiful Lakes” in China, dotted with 1078 verdurous islands of different sizes. It boasts crystal-clear water and lush green forests, and finds itself in the category of the first 44 National Scenic Parks approved by the State Council, and is also the largest national forest park in China.
Qiandao Lake is also known as the Xin'anjiang Reservoir. It is a man-made lake created during the construction of Xin'anjiang Hydropower Station in 1959. Qiandao Lake has a depth of 105 meters, and is 462 meters long. The large reservoir is famous not just for its magnificent appearance, but also for its spectacular and majestic scenery. Embraced by green hills, scattered islets and clear water, Qiandao Lake is praised for being highly picturesque.
The lake is divided into 5 sections: northeastern, southeastern, northwestern, southeastern and central. The presence of dense forests provides for a rich ecological environment rife with a wide variety of flora and fauna. The diversity of numerous cultural relics, abundant local products and biological resources make Qiandao Lake famous in China and abroad. For centuries, numerous intellectuals have been attracted to Chun'an County, leaving behind a legacy of hundreds of works of literature and poetry in tribute to the beauty of the lake, including well-recognized names such as Li Bai, Wang Wei, Lu You, Fan Zhongyan, Zhu Xi, and Ba Jin.
Known as “Lion City”, the perfectly preserved underwater site is dubbed as China’s “Atlantis Rediscovered”. After large-scale reconstructions in recent years, the gorgeous and mysterious lake has formed an additional 14 scenic spots including Meifeng Islet, Longshan (Dragon Hill) Islet, and the Peacock Garden. Qiandao Lake Resort has a promising future with its fascinating scenery and excellent environment and is on the way to become one of the hottest scenic spots with the steady improvement of transportation channels and development of tourism resources.
