Introduction
Mogan Mountain Scenic Area is part of the Tianmu Mountain range, falling in Deqing County, Zhejiang Province, a major bamboo area with lush bamboo forests on its slopes and surrounding areas. It is 60 kilometers north of Hangzhou, and approximately 200 kilometers west of Shanghai. Mogan Mountain is famous for its unique environment- the coolness, greenness, clearness and tranquility as well as lush bamboos, cool spring water and misty clouds. With thriving bamboo stalks, towering trees, the scattered springs and waterfalls, the scenic area has a unique charm. Besides, this area is also famed for its green tea- Anji white tea, and bamboo handicraft articles such as beds, chairs, vases, bowls, and cups that are sold at local shops. Known for its cool temperatures during the long scorching summers, Mogan Mountain Scenic Area began its foray into the tourism business in the early 20th century with a mix of local inns and exotic villas built in the area. Today, the scenic area is also a popular weekend destination both for tourists and locals. It is hailed as “the Cool and Refreshing World” and is listed as one of the top four best summer resorts in China.
Due to its high altitude, the climate of the mountainous area has plenty of rain and mist, and the fog after rains is particularly wonderful and enchanting, allowing visitors to appreciate their ethereal forms against the setting of the cool waterfalls and clear springs. Hundreds of villas with different styles and designs have been built in the thriving bamboo forests in the last few years, which won the area a new reputation as an architectural hot spot.
