Introduction
The Native Place of Lu Xun is the place where Mr. Lu Xun, a leading figure of modern Chinese literature, lived and studied in his youth. Now, his former residence in Shaoxing city is a well-known cultural relic placed under national protection and also an AAAA level tourist attraction. Located in 235, Middle Lu Xun Road, in the central of the city, this historical place is accessible directly by bus, taxi or even rickshaw. The Shaoxing Lu Xun Memorial Museum was established in July, 1953. It was the first memorial museum for a person since the founding of the new China. In 2002, the government of Shaoxing carried out a project for historical block protection in this area in a highly venerable attitude towards history. After undergoing reconstruction and restoration work for several years, this place has now become a block that carries a strong historical element, rich cultural connotations and typical traditional architectural style. Taking up a total area of 50 acres with a core area of 28.9 acres, the Native Place of Lu Xun not only comprises of the old house of Lu Xun, his family house, Sanwei Study and Baicao Garden, but also houses the restored Xintaimeng Family House of Zhou, the Family House of Shou, the Tugu Temple, the folklore park in Lu Xun’s works and other ancient architecture related to Lu Xun. The scenic area combines the Shaoxing style and the characteristics prevalent in Lu’s period, and recreates Xianheng Restaurant, Dongchang Fangkou, the Tazi Bridge, Changqing Temple, Hengji Pawnshop and other scenic spots that were mentioned in Lu’s works.Lu Xun Hometown has been open to the public for free since June 1st, 2008. The number of visitors has been increasing on a yearly basis since then. In recent years, the annual number of domestic and foreign visitors combined usually reaches the figure of 2 million. National leaders including Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, Li Peng, Zhu Rongji and Wen Jiabao have all toured the native place of Lu Xun.
